OLD OAK TREE AT SV. PETAR ON CRES ISLAND MARKED WITH AN INFORMATION PANEL

Under the organisation of the Public Institution Priroda,
on 12 May 2008, an information panel was placed alongside the old oak
tree – a protected natural monument – at Sv. Petar on the island of Cres.
The panel displays basic information about the oak tree, its approximate
age and a timeline of recent events linked to the tree. Not long ago,
the tree suffered considerable damage during a strong storm, requiring
repairs to be made to the tree and its crown. The panel shows a photograph
of the protected tree prior to the storm. The information panel was set
up as one of the many activities that the Public Institution Priroda has
planned as a contribution to this year’s International Day for Biological
Diversity. It will be possible to view this new information panel on Priroda’s
web pages, under the heading Marking Protected Areas.

a part of the large branch that broke off during a recent storm can be
seen. The broken branch is being kept as a reminder of this natural event.
