EXHIBITION OPENED AT THE MUSEUM OF RIJEKA ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAIN DAY

In 2003, International Mountain Day was celebrated for the first time in the County of Primorje and Gorski Kotar with the presentation of the book “50 Years of the Risnjak National Park”. Two years later, this day was marked by a photography exhibition entitled “Mountains
– rocks, flora and fauna”. The aim of the exhibition, which presented not only photos of flora and fauna, but specimens of typical rocks as well, was to reveal the dynamic dimension and interconnectedness of the animate and inanimate world of mountains. In 2006, International Mountain Day
was marked by a sequel of these events – an exhibition of photographs of flora in protected mountain areas. This year the intention was to focus on the unparalleled beauty and vulnerability of the environment and landscapes in the mountain regions of the Kvarner Bay islands – Krk, Prvić, Cres,
Lošinj and Rab – that are very susceptible to possible climate change.

Mr. Zlatko Komadina, Prefect of the County of Primorje and Gorski Kotar, and Ms Sonja Šišić, director of the Public Institution “Priroda” opened the exhibition with a welcome address. The performance of Mr. Zlatko Jurković and Mr. Nikola Dapćević, sopci (musicians) from
Njivice, added to the atmosphere of the opening ceremony. Indigenous products, food and beverages of the Kvarner islands were also displayed at the exhibition, providing visitors with an opportunity to indulge in or experience some of the diversity of the islands’ flavours and aromas. At this
time, the Public Institution “Priroda” would again like to extend their gratitude to the Association Ruta of Cres, the Goranske Vunarice (Highland Wool Producers) of Ravna Gora, the restaurant “Rivica” in Njivie, Mr. Željko Znidaršić of Njivice, as well as to the Tourist Boards
of Baška and Mali Lošinj for their rich offering of indigenous products, aromatic herbs, food and beverages and their help in organising the exhibtion.
