INFORMATION BOARDS PLACED IN BIJELE AND SAMARSKE STIJENE

On 10 October 2007, three information boards were erected warning visitors that they are entering the area of the Bijele and Samarske Stijene Strict Reserve. One panel was placed in the centre of the town of Mrkpolj, and two more at the entrances to the strict reserve – the first
at the entrance to Samarske Stijene (the “13th kilometre”, the second at the entrance to Bijele Stijene.

In our opinion, the boards blend well with their surroundings. Given that this is a strict reserve – the strictest category of protection in Croatia – for which group visits require a special permission, the following warning is clearly visible on the boards:

The Strict Reserve is an area of the strictest order of protection! During your visit, please take care not to disturb the forest’s peace, or jeopardise or destroy the primeval and pristine natural beauty of Bijele and Samarske Stijene. Leaving the marked trails is prohibited.
Enjoy the Reserve’s natural wonders, and take care to ensure that others after you will be able to do the same.

The event received media coverage in short broadcasts on KanalRi, the local television station, and on Radio Delnice.
