GRIFFON VULTURES RELEASED INTO THE WILD

On 16 October 2010, eleven griffon vultures were released
into the wild from the Griffon Vulture Rescue Centre. The Centre mostly
houses, until their full recovery, griffon vultures that have fallen into
the sea or suffered other injuries. Present at this event, which also
had an educational aspect, was the head of the Public Institution “Priroda”.

The Rescue Centre is a part of the Eco Centre Beli, which
the Ministry of Culture has authorised as the national centre for receiving,
treating and caring for protected species of birds of prey, primarily
griffon vultures, that have been found injured, exhausted or poisoned,
or that have been confiscated. Each year, the Centre succeeds in rescuing
and releasing into the wild between 10 and 15 griffon vultures that would
otherwise have died without treatment and recovery.
