YEAR-LONG PROJECT ABOUT THE DONKEYS OF KRK ISLAND

Some breeds of domestic animals on Krk Island have already died off, never to return. Such was the fate of the Krk pony, for example. Happily, donkeys are still around, although their numbers are very small. Donkeys, which are of exceptional importance to the conservation of the island’s biodiversity, are the topic of a multidisciplinary approach and study to be conducted throughout this school year by the pupils and teachers of Baška Elementary School. The project was introduced by means of a lecture titled “Donkeys and the Biodiversity of Krk Island” and held in the classrooms of Baška Elementary School. The lecture, however, could not focus in greater detail on all issues relating to the multiple connections between donkeys and the rich biodiversity of Krk Island. We promised to take up some of these issues – such as the domestication of donkeys – at a later time, perhaps even on the Web pages of PI “Priroda”.
