CLEANING UP THE WALKING PATHS OF “POD JAVORI” FOREST PARK IN VELI LOŠINJ
The “Smart” Association of Rijeka, the Sanatorium for Pulmonary and Allergy Diseases of Veli Lošinj, and the Public Institution “Priroda” joined together to organise the praiseworthy drive to clear and fix up the walking paths and areas of the “Pod Javori”
Forest Park in Veli Lošinj. Seventeen volunteers of the “Smart” Association thoroughly and professionally cleared the Forest Park’s walking paths of the bushes and vegetation that had partially overgrown them. The drive took place on Saturday, 15 March 2008, in pleasant, sunny weather.
The volunteers used this opportunity to learn more about the Forest Park’s history and value, and about the floral wealth of exotic dendrological species planted here in a makeshift arboretum.
The branches cut and litter collected during the drive were loaded into ten large bulky-waste dumpsters and removed from the Forest Park. The members of the association expressed their wishes and willingness to continue collaboration with the Public Institution “Priroda”,
which is, indeed, a welcome offer, as there is much work still to be done in the many protected areas in the County of Primorje and Gorski Kotar in the future (cleaning ponds, biodiversity inventory-taking, curbing invasive species…).
