MONEY FROM THE SALES OF SPRUCE TREES FROM TRSTENIK MIRE DONATED TO CHILDREN FROM SOCIALLY HANDICAPPED FAMILIES

Organized for the fourth time running by Public Institution
“Priroda” in collaboration with the Croatian Forest Enterprise
– Klana Forest Office, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and Festival Opatija,
the annual humanitarian and environmental campaign collected HRK 5,000
from the sales of spruce Christmas trees from Trstenik Mire. The trees
were felled to help the conservation of biological diversity and the revitalization
of Trstenik Mire near Klana. Trstenik Mire is the only habitat of ombrotrophic
bog in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County as well as in Croatia.

People participated in the humanitarian campaign by buying
spruce Christmas trees. Festival Opatija added another HRK 10,000 obtained
from renting skates and selling skating-ring tickets. The donation to
children from socially handicapped families came to a total of HRK 15,000.
At the closing ceremony held on Sunday, 12 January at the Summer Stage
in Opatija, Sonja Šišić, Director of PI “Priroda”, Herman Sušnik,
Director of the Forest Office Klana, and Rajna Miloš, Director of Festival
Opatija, presented the donation to Zlata Torbarina, Senior Expert Assistant
for Social Activities of the Town of Opatija.
