SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT OF EVENTS TO BE HELD ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAIN DAY

As each year since International Mountain Day has been
celebrated around the world, the Primorsko-Goranska County, together now
with the Public Institution “Priroda”, has organised an exhibition
marking this day.

This year the exhibition is being organised under the
motto “In the Bosom of the Mountains“, and it will present
the speleological structures and fauna of the northwestern Dinaride mountain
range.

The plan is to stage the events on the very day of International
Mountain Day, that is, on 11 December 2009, with the following
programme:

10 a.m. at the Villa Angiolina in Opatija
– presentation of a documentary movie about the findings in the Vrtare
Male Cave in Dramalj (produced by Croatia Radiotelevision and directed
by Marin Leko, the movie is entitled “Panthera Spelaea” (“Cave Lion”)
– presentation of a new animal species – a cave pseudoscorpion of the
genus Roncus sp. nov. – discovered this year in the Biserujka Cave on
Krk Island (the first finding in the world of this species!), with Roman
Ozimec, M.Sc. as lecturer

11 a.m. – opening of the exhibition entitled “In the Bosom of the Mountains” in the “Juraj Šporer” Art Pavilion in Opatija

Participating alongside the Public Institution “Priroda” in the organisation of these events are the Administrative Department for Construction and Environmental Protection, the Natural History Museum of Rijeka, the State Institute for Nature Protection, North Velebit National Park, Risnjak National Park, Učka Nature Park, the Museum of the Town of Crikvenica and Šilotourist of Šilo.
